Revett Reports Second Sinkhole at Troy Mine
February 13, 2006Spokane Valley---Revett Minerals reported today the finding of a second sinkhole over
the same inactive area of the Troy Mine, operated by its subsidiary Genesis Inc., located in Lincoln County, Montana.
“This new sinkhole is similar to the previous sinkhole found at Troy last year,” said Carson Rife, Vice President of Operations, adding, “and it in no way should be considered a risk factor to Rock Creek, where buffer zones are incorporated to protect the surface. The buffer zones provide nearly twice the vertical protection as is present in this previously mined out area of the Troy Mine.”
Rife said as soon as practical the area located on private land will be backfilled and reclaimed in cooperation with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the US Forest Service (USFS). Both agencies were notified as soon as possible after the sinkhole was discovered.
Rife also pointed out that the company is currently working with both agencies to complete an independent geotechnical review of the Troy Mine.
