October 22, 2003Spokane, Wash -Business Wire- Revett Silver Company (formerly Sterling Mining Company of Montana), is pleased to announce that William Orchow has agreed to join the company in the positions of Director, President and COO. Mr. Orchow formerly served on the company’s board as a representative for Kennecott Minerals Company until his retirement from Kennecott in 2002.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Orchow was President and CEO of Kennecott Minerals Company, a position which included responsibility for operations and business development at all of Kennecott’s mineral mines, with the exception of Bingham Canyon. Prior to that position he was President and CEO of Kennecott Energy Company, the third largest producer of domestic coal in the United States. Mr. Orchow has been a Board Member and on the Executive Committee of the Gold Institute, the Board of the National Mining Association and the National Coal Association. Mr. Orchow currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Westminster College in Salt Lake City.
The company also recently hired Mr. Doug Ward to fill the position of V.P. of Corporate Development and Mr. Carson Rife as its Chief Mining Engineer. Mr. Ward was previously with Coeur d’ Alene Mines as their Manager of Corporate Development and Senior Financial Analyst. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Rife, was employed by Apollo Gold as Director of Engineering & Project Development, and prior to that he was Project Manager and General Manager for Pegasus Gold Inc. at several of its mines in Montana and Australia.
On October 15, 2003 the company’s shareholders approved changing the name of the company from Sterling Mining Company to Revett Silver Company. Management felt it prudent to change the name to help end the public’s confusion with the publicly traded Sterling Mining Company of Idaho. The name Revett is derived from the “Revett Formation,” the geological formation which hosts the company’s two mineral deposits, Troy and Rock Creek. Both deposits are located in northwestern Montana.
The Rock Creek Project, will be developed as permitted, as a 10,000 ton per day, underground silver/copper mine with estimated annual production of 5.4 million ounces of silver, and 44 million pounds of copper. Rock Creek has an estimated resource of 136.6 million tons, grading 1.67 ounces silver per ton and 0.74% copper. The Rock Creek Project was issued a favorable Record of Decision by the U.S. Forest Service on June 27th, 2003. On September 26th, 2003 the Northern Regional Office of the U.S. Forest Service affirmed the Rock Creek Mine decision that had been appealed by several environmental groups.
The company’s Troy Mine is fully permitted. Currently on care and maintenance awaiting a restart decision, the Troy Mine has an estimated remaining recoverable resource of 6.7 million tons, grading 1.49 ounces silver per ton, and 0.69% copper based on the prior operator, ASARCO Inc.’s, estimate. Revett Silver is currently completing its own in-house resource estimate and feasibility study.
This is a time of positive change for the company and management continues to be optimistic about Revett’s future. Bill, Doug and Carson bring a wealth of experience and expertise to Revett’s management team. The company looks forward to working with them towards the development of the Rock Creek Mine and the reopening of the Troy Mine.
